I'm reprinting my book Planted with proceeds going to Ukraine
Five years ago, I published my book Planted: Stories From Manitoba’s Natural World. I am reprinting the book (an updated edition!), with proceeds going toward humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
It’s been so heartbreaking to see the destruction, the death in Ukraine. In addition to raising awareness about the war, signing petitions, and learning more about Ukraine and its culture, making donations can have a major impact to help Ukrainians defend themselves and to rebuild their country.
A few places I will donate to include Ukrainian Patriot, Cobblestone Freeway Foundation, Canada-Ukraine Foundation, and Lifeline Ukraine, among others.
Though Planted doesn’t have an outright Ukrainian theme, you’ll see it weaved among the chapters, plus I’m proud of my Ukrainian roots, and I think that comes through a lot of the time in my writing, in who I am.
I made a few changes to the first edition, including new drawings by my sister Rayna, a new preface, and updates to the chapter “For Summer,” which shares Lindsey Emberley’s story of heartache and healing after her infant daughter, Summer, passed away in 2015.
Over the past few years, I’ve seen snapshots of Lindsey’s life — going fishing, picking mushrooms, and tending to the garden with her three-year-old son. In the first edition of Planted, the chapter ends saying Lindsey is ready to create life again. So I wanted to give an update, to share how nature continues to support her, connecting her to Summer, as she raises her son.
I’m excited for the book to be in your hands. It’s just about ready. To be the first to know when the second edition of Planted is available, join the waitlist.
